Opening doors for women and girls

We have a vision that will evolve as Meriama Fund grows, and that is to help women and girls find their wings. Our first emphasis here will be on financial literacy as a powerful tool for self-determination and empowerment.

You were born with potential. You were born with goodness and trust. You were born with ideals and dreams. You were born with greatness. You were born with wings. You are not meant for crawling, so don’t. You have wings. Learn to use them and fly. — Rumi

We support public libraries, those invaluable sources of freedom and deep knowledge. We also support innovative ways to teach and encourage the kind of creative, compelling writing that can give wings to feelings and new ideas.

..because sometimes you just have to take the leap and build your wings on the way down. — Kobi Yamada

Conservation of wildlife and wild places

From our own communities to the Himalaya, we support protecting wild places and the creatures that inhabit them. Wild places nourish the soul, and wild creatures remind us that we are all interconnected and have a responsibility to be good stewards of our planet.

The thing I’ve liked best my whole life is walking outside somewhere green… — Meriama

Movement arts

We believe in the power of art to change lives, and support movement arts that empower and invite empathy for the experiences of others and celebrate the beauty and diversity of the world around us.

Our lens for this: dance and martial arts. We are drawn to dance that serves as a reminder of the goodness, power and compassion in ourselves and in others, and bolsters a resilient hope for humanity.

Martial arts for women offers a path to developing and recognizing their strength, courage, and the understanding that they are worth defending – and that they can also defend those who are most vulnerable.
